The 5th Of May.It commemorates the victory of the Mexicans over the French army at The Battle Of Puebla in 1862.
It's very important to mention and think why it's is a big victory for Mexico: because the Mexican army was weaker in many senses, comparing it with the French army/troops, Mexicans didn't have the weapons the French army had,nor the experience about fighting a fierce-long battle but the Mexican army exhibited great courage and determination to defend themselves against France, fighting a fierce battle and winning against all odds, showing how a small army with not so many options, nor sophisticated weapons can win with order and grouping as a solid army. That is why May 5th is a day of Mexican pride, unity and patriotism.

Although it's not a very big celebration in comparison with Mexico's Independence day (Sept. 16th),it's celebrated in all the Country, especially in Puebla (where the battle was fought and won), Queretaro, Mexico City also has commemorative parades and ceremonies for honouring the Mexican army and also it has gotten big celebrations outside the country as it happens in USA as a major holiday (that is why many people think May 5th is Mexico's Independence day)
Today for Mexicans living in Mexico,it is a day off (we don't have to work nor going to school),there are parades and festivals also ceremonies for praising the courage of that small army.

Just a brief note:
I feel especially proud of saying that the city of Queretaro (the beautiful city where I live now), was very important for the final development of the way the French Empire was defeated when Maximilian of Habsburg was executed by firing squad on June 19 at the Cerro de las Campanas in Queretaro, being the President of Mexico: Benito Juarez.
