Chest Cold

I must say that after a very bad weekend, due to had caught a terrible chest cold that was close to be Bronchitis,I am just glad of feeling better despite a very heavy cough I still have.

I thanks all my friends and people who asked me about Wheels For Independence site because I haven't written anything these five days, but I must say that this chest cold has kept away from the computer,I offer an apology for not posting a few topics I am still working on them and planning them but it was worse than I had thought, but I am getting better and stronger now and this week all will start to improve again.

I must say that last Friday I wasn't so sick but when I went to bed and woke up on Saturday morning,I was barely able to breath,my cough was so bad and my chest was very congestionated, despite all I had to work that day and well I had to start to take the medicine i always use, though it wasn't helping, until yesterday night I had to get an injection for cutting the problem, fortunately now the only bad thing is my cough, but I am fighting it!

Thanks for your understanding, thanks for reading Wheels For Independence!

A few things about common Cold:

A cold is an illness caused by a nasal infection.

The Symptoms of the common cold are (include) head congestion, nasal congestion, sore throat, coughing, headache, sneezing and watery eyes, some more severe cases can develop fever (low to high degree depending the infection). There are more than 200 viruses that can cause the common cold, the most common of which is rhinoviruses. The virus deposits itself in the front part of the nose, where it can be passed to another person by sneezing, coughing or on the hands.

Colds are very common and most colds are caught in the fall and winter,or when spring is starting, although cold weather doesn't cause colds, people frequently get sick with cold infections during the cold seasons/months because cold viruses tend to live longer in cold temperatures.

Common Colds can last from three days to two weeks (in the not so severe cases) and depending the treatment we give them (the medicine/care),but if the infection is severe, these colds can sometimes turn into more serious illnesses, such as middle ear infections, bronchitis or sinus infections. Colds are often confused with influenza, which is caused by a different types of viruses and can be much more serious.

It's recommended to avoid contact with any person who has a cold, this is in order to avoid getting the illness,we should wash hands very often during cold season (at any season actually). If we have the infection,we always must cover the nose and mouth with a tissue when coughing and sneezing (carry with us always toilet paper, tissues, etc),wear a beret/cap/hat in order to keep warm our head, wear scarves (trying to cover your nose and mouth)for avoiding breathing the cold air and smoke if we have to go out for school, hospital, job, etc...drink plenty of fluids, especially drink juices that have vitamine C,if the common cold doesn't disappear in a week,go to see your doctor and get attention ASAP,avoid smoking and drinking alcoholic beverages, avoid going to public places like cinemas, parks, parties, etc and avoid to be exposed to sudden/severe weather changes whenever possible, every week change your pillow cases, bed spreads and sheets, wash them with warm/hot water for killing the germs and open your windows when the person with cold goes out, this is for ventilating the room and renewing the air inside (of course check that the wind is not so cold, nor blowing too hard inside the room when the person with cold is inside).

Before, During And After A Cold - What Should You Do?

During A Cold: In the throes of misery

From:About.com

Ok, well you have a cold so now what? Here are some things to remember before you hit that medicine cabinet:

*Sleep, sleep, sleep: Your body needs to rest so that it can fight off the cold.

*Chicken soup really does work. The steam from the soup will unclog the nose and the chicken broth has anti-inflammatory properties that help your chest.

*Vitamin C won't cure your cold, but it can shorten the length of it. Drink some OJ or take a vitamin, but don't exceed 200mg a day.

*Don't overmedicate yourself by taking medications that treat a multitude of symptoms. Treat only the symptoms you have (ex. salty gargle for throat instead of Sudafed Super Plus Plus).
